Childcare
FUMC offers quality child care at no cost for parents participating in church events/meetings. To request child care, please contact Susan Dougan one week prior to the event/meeting at 332-6396 ext. 0735 or childcare@fumcb.org. We will make every attempt to ensure coverage.

NO SUNDAY SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 5
Please note that there will be no formal Sunday school on Sunday, September 5 due to the long weekend. Children are welcome to join their parents in the service. Nursery care will still be available for children 3 and under from 8:15-12:15 in Room 132.
ONGOING CLASSES & EVENTS
Sunday Nursery Care
Nursery care for infants and toddlers is available in Room 132 during Sunday worship services and Sunday School classes from 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. When you leave your child in the nursery, you can take a beeper, which allows the nursery staff to page you if needed. Summer Sunday School
Summer Sunday school is offered in two classes during the summer. 2 and 3 year olds meet in their regular Sunday school classroom (room 125) and 4’s through 4th grade meet in room 137 (behind the large green PDO desk). Classes are staffed by volunteer members of the congregation, so that regular teachers can have a summer break.
Please note that Club 56 does NOT meet during the summer. Students are welcome to attend a service with their parents or volunteer their time in a younger class.
4th Grade Bibles
February, 4th graders and older children who would like to receive a Bible are invited to attend 3 awesome Sunday classes taught by our pastoral staff during the 9:30 hour. Kids are asked to attend with a parent or special adult of their choice. On the 4th Sunday, kids are presented with age-appropriate Bibles by the FUMC congregation.
All 4th graders are contacted by Children’s Ministries in January with information. Please contact Alexandra Lamb, if you have further questions or an older child who would like to participate.
Sunday School classes are offered for children and youth, age two through high school, at 9:30 a.m. All classes provide learning and worship experiences that involve storytelling, art and music. The focus of these classes is age-appropriate religious education that engages children and youth in their growth as children of God. Elementary aged classes are located on the 1st floor and youth classes are on the 3rd floor. At 11:00 a.m., the Good Shepherd class in room 137 offers a multi-age childcare setting for children from age three through third grade. Please note that regular Sunday school and Good Shepherd do not meet during Christmas vacation, Spring break, the July long weekend, or the September long weekend. Nursery care is available all morning (from 8:15-12:15) on those days for children 3 and under. Vacation Bible School
Each summer, children (age two through grade six), youth, and adult helpers spend a wonderful week together learning, serving, and having fun. Through Bible stories, music, outreach projects, crafts, worship, games, and other activities, we learn more about being children of God. Recent VBS themes have included A Heart for Missions (2003), Hero Quest (2004), Heifer Project (2005), Growing in God's Garden (2006), Habitat for Humanity (2007), and Power Lab: Discovering Jesus' Muraculous Power (2008). Our theme for 2009 was Gear Up for Camp E.D.G.E. This year our theme was: Joseph's Journey from Prison to Palace. Children’s Sabbath
Each fall the National Observance of Children’s Sabbath provides an opportunity for people of all ages and faiths to learn more about the urgent needs of children and the important role faith communities must play to nurture and protect children. Through worship, education, congregational outreach, and advocacy activities, our church community learns more about the problems facing children; and we are challenged to respond to these needs. Child Care for Church Events
Child care for church meetings and events is provided when two or more families need this service. To request child care, contact childcare@fumcb.org at least 1 week in advance of the meeting or event. Child Protection Policy Providing a safe and nurturing environment for children, youth, paid child care workers, and volunteers is a priority at First Church. The Child Protection Policy establishes guidelines for safe practices with children and youth, as well as guidelines for recruiting, screening, hiring, and supervising of child care workers and volunteers. Copies of the guidelines and policy are available from the Office of Children’s Ministries. WEEKDAY PRESCHOOL
Parents’ Day Out is a child care program that serves children birth through age five and offers flexible schedule choices at an hourly rate to parents. For more information, click here.
